The MV Hopewell is a Kormoran vessel disguised as a supertanker.

History[]

Scarecrow[]

After the Kormoran Project began during the late 20th century, the Kopassus Shipping Group, build a number of frigates, including the MV Hopewell, which would appear to any outside viewers as an ordinary-looking super-tankers, in order to allow the U.S. to move ICBMs around and launch them without foreign nations realising where they were being struck from.

When the Hopewell was finished, it was docked at the Axon Corporation's ship-building and missile attachment plant in Guam.

When Majestic-12 began plans to start a new Cold War, they learned of the existence of Kormoran thanks to the Kopassus Shipping Group's CEO, Corneius Kopassus. They planned to destroy a number of western cities in America and Europe, using the Kormoran ships to launch Chameleon missiles in order to stage a terrorist attack.

While M-12 planned to use North Korean Taep'o Dong-2's on the Hopewell, the chaos-loving Jonathon Killian had his own plans, and added Chameleon clones of Taiwan's Sky Horse-3's missiles to the Hopewell, intending to target Beijing and Hong Kong, thereby creating global anarchy instead of a Cold War.

Having already been assigned to seek aide for defending the Kormoran ships if they came under attack before the Chameleon missiles could be launched, Killian made a deal with five African nations, who would deploy troops onto each ship in order to defend them. As a result, troops from either Chad, Libya or Angola were stationed onboard the MV Hopewell as soon as Killian took control of the ship.

The Mossad agent Benjamin Rosenthal was able to gather much intel regarding M-12's plans, however he failed to learn about Killian's extra ships and missiles.

While Shane Schofield was working on disarming the Chameleon missiles on M-12's Kormoran vessels, he noticed that the target list that he had obtained by siphoning Killian's computer at the Forteresse de Valois was different from Rosenthal's list, noticing the extra ships and missiles. After sinking the Talbot, Schofield looked over the additional information and realised Killian's own plans to incite world chaos.

While Schofield worked on reaching the missile silo in Yemen, he used the resources the U.S. President had given him to arrange for the remaining Kormoran ships to be destroyed. As a result, the Hopewell was surreptitiously destroyed by Mark 48 torpedoes fired by a Los Angeles-class sub that happened to be close enough in time before the Chameleon missiles were fired, taking Killian's African troops with it as it sank.

Features[]

Missile Silos[]

Beneath the fore-deck of the Hopewell are 12 hidden missile silos. Each silo can be uncovered from a control console near the bow of the ship, which also controls the missile launches.

Trivia[]

  • The Hopewell, like all of the Kormoran ships, is named after the ship from the Winthrop fleet that brought people to New England in the 17th century.
  • The original targets that Majestic-12 intended to fire on with the Hopewell and a compliment of Taep'o Dong-2's is never mentioned, only the ones that Killian decided on when he went rogue from their plan.
