Future Stories

Reilly has previously stated that he may indeed write further stories involving Jack West Jr down to "the one something something". In the Afterwords of The Four Legendary Kingdoms, Reilly jokingly stated that the fifth novel could be titled "The Three Secret Cities".

The events that take place during The Four Legendary Kingdoms confirm that are still two more great trials to come, with three of the five trials (the Tartarus Rotation, the Return of the Dark Sun, and the Diverting of the Hydra Galaxy) having been completed by the novels' end.

Confirmed focus points of the future of the series are; the Trismagi and the three secret cities, the Omega Event, and a note regarding "unusual trees". Presumably, the underwater gateway that Zoe and the Adamson twins were investigating during The Four Legendary Kingdoms will play a role.

During The Five Greatest Warriors, there were hints that the Catholic Church was still in the game, with Cardinal Ricardo Mendoza (Father Del Piero's replacement) being an expert on the 'Trismagi' (from 'Tris' meaning three, and 'magi', meaning magicians). Translated from the original Greek, the Trismagi are now commonly known in English as the three wise men who visited Jesus on the night of his birth. During The Four Legendary Kingdoms, it was confirmed that the Trismagi will play a part in future stories.

Two other elements briefly mentioned by Mendoza during The Four Legendary Kingdoms may also play a part in subsequent stories; the Cardinal mentions two sacred trees and a Life Stone.

The short story, Jack West Jr and the Hero's Helmet, also contains unanswered elements that may contribute to the future of the Huntsman series; the Knife of Osiris, which was referred to as a keyblade by an assassin working for an unknown master.

Within a Facebook post regarding the film rights to The Great Zoo of China, Reilly commented that he doesn't feel that Temple allows for the opportunity to have a sequel, but suggested that William Race could one day appear in a Jack West story.

On September 1st 2017, Reilly posted on Facebook, confirming that he was working on the next Jack West novel. The following December, he confirmed that the fifth Jack West story would be released in 2018.

In February 2018, Reilly revealed that the fifth book was to be called The Three Sacred Cities, set for a November 8th release.

Trivia

  • This is the second series Matthew Reilly created.
  • With the release of The Four Legendary Kingdoms, the appearance of Shane Schofield and Mother from the Scarecrow Series (with some other details from that series being mentioned) confirms that both series are set in the same fictional universe.
    • A connection to the Scarecrow series had already been implied but not confirmed; Sean "Astro" Miller first appeared in the novella Hell Island as a minor character, and would later appear in a supporting role in both The Six Sacred Stones and The Five Greatest Warriors.
  • Matthew Reilly has mentioned that William Race from Temple could one day appear in the Huntsman series, suggesting that the events of the stand-alone novel are also set within the Huntsman series universe.
    • If this becomes reality, this will also create another connection to the Scarecrow series, where Temple's Supernova has been mentioned throughout the series.
