Giza is Egypt's second-largest city, as well as one of its oldest, built thousands of years ago during the fourth dynasty of the Pharaohs, and the location of many of the county's historical sites.

Fictional History[]

Early History[]

A long time ago, a race of super-ancient beings built the fifth of their iron mountains within a small mountain formed out of granite in the area that would later become Giza. The entrance, which also served as the moon shaft, to this iron mountain was later built within the head of the Great Sphinx of Giza.

Around 2580 – 2560 BC, the Pharaoh Khufu had the Great Pyramid constructed with the intention of having the Golden Capstone serving as its summit, its purpose to act as a point for the Tartarus sunspot to unleash its energy, where the Capstone would absorb the sun's power. After the Tartarus rotation in 2570 BC, the Capstone was removed from Khufu and split into seven pieces.

During 1798, Napoléon Bonaparte led an expedition to Giza, and was among those who uncovered the Great Sphinx. Though Napoléon and his men nearly uncovered the fifth iron mountain by discovering the shaft located in the Sphinx's head, they found it clogged with solidified sand and did not attempt to penetrate any deeper.

Seven Ancient Wonders[]

On March 20th 2006, the day of the Tartarus rotation, the Commander-in-Chief's In Extremis Force arrived in Giza to prepare to re-erect the Golden Capstone. Having bribed the Egyptian Government in advance, the entire Giza Plateau was closed off to the public under the pretense of repair being done on the pyramids.

The top of the Great Pyramid of Giza (on a scaffolding platform and the airspace around it) was the location for the battle between Marshall Judah's CIEF forces and Jack West Jr's team.

Between Seven Ancient Wonders and The Two Lost Mountains[]

In 2007, an Egyptian Civil Engineering almost discovered the fifth iron mountain, as they struck granite and their ground penetrating radar revealed that a conical mass of granite lay beneath the Giza plateau. However, they did not realise the significance of what they had found, and simply typed up a report on the granite.

The Two Lost Mountains[]

Shortly after Sphinx entered the Supreme Labyrinth, his forces used a Siren bell in Cairo, along with many of the world's major cities, sending the citizens into a coma-like state, and the people located in nearby Giza were also affected due to being in the range of the bell's ring.

When Alby Calvin looked back over the edict Khufu had left in the Great Pyramid regarding the Supreme Labyrinth, and looked up mountains near Giza, with his search turning up the Civil Engineering report of 2007. After reading it and seeing a picture depicting the mass being beneath the Sphinx, Alby began to realise that the fifth mountain was in Giza, and reported his find to Jack West Jr, who along with Zoe and Lily began heading to Giza with the intention of undertaking the Fall at the fifth mountain together.

Meanwhile, members of the Order of the Omega also discovered the location of the fifth iron mountain and a group led by Brother Eli arrived in Giza first. As they began digging into the hardened sand that had clogged up the moon shaft in the Great Sphinx of Giza's head, Jack's Team landed their plane at the Cairo International Airport, and then took an abandoned police cruiser and began racing through to Giza.

As Jack's group approached the Great Sphinx, Alby and Rufus managed to get an uplink working from the Zapadny Cosmodrome in Libya to expose the pedestal. As the moon's alignment over Giza began, Eli hurried to take advantage and begin the Fall, but as he headed down the shaft in the Sphinx's head, his men were taken down by Jack, Zoe and Lily, who followed the Omega monk into the Hall of the Falling Temple. During the race to the Falling Temple's bottom level, Zoe and Lily got their hands on the pedestal while Jack quickly fought Eli and knocked the Omega monk into the shaft before joining his wife and daughter at the lower altar.

Once the Falling Temple had passed the second annulus and the Wests each received the burning key for successfully performing the Fall, Jack, Lily and Zoe made their way back out of the iron mountain onto the Giza Plateau, and soon began heading to the Supreme Labyrinth.

The One Impossible Labyrinth[]

After the Omega Event was averted and Sphinx and his forces defeated, Jack and his team proceeded to use the Orphean bellto awaken the sleep-struck citizens in the cities affected by the Siren bells, including Giza and Cairo.

Features[]

The Great Pyramid[]

Khufu-great-pyramid-of-giza

It is believed that the Great Pramid was built as a tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, and was constructed over a 20 year period. The pyramid remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years, unsurpassed until the 160-metre-tall spire of Lincoln Cathedral was completed c. 1300, and was the only one of the seven ancient wonders to survive fully to the modern day.

The Great Pyramid was also built nine feet shorter than intended in order to incorporate the Golden Capstone as its tip, which during the Tartarus sunspot's alignment with Giza would absorb the excess heat. After this had been done in ancient times, Khufu had the Capstone removed from the Great Pyramid, and so for several millennia the Pyramid was left with a flat top. The Capstone was briefly re-erected for the 2006 Tartarus rotation, and after the conflict with the CIEF was over, the Coalition of Minnows took it away again.

The Khafre and Menkaure Pyramids[]

The Pyramid of Khafre, the tomb built for the pharaoh Khafre, is the second-largest pyramid, while the Menkaure Pyramid, built as Menkaure's tomb, is the smallest of the three.

The Great Sphinx of Giza[]

The Great Sphinx of Giza, commonly referred to as the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining or couchant sphinx (a mythical creature with a lion's body and a human head) that stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza. It is the largest monolith statue in the world, and the oldest known monumental sculpture, and is commonly believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians during the reign of Khafre since it stands near the second pyramid.

The Sphinx also sits at the summit of a small mountain buried by the surrounding sands and formed out of granite, and also contains the entrance into the fifth iron mountain within the top of its head.

The Fifth Iron Mountain[]

The Fifth of the five Iron Mountains of the fifth trial, which is located beneath the Great Sphinx in Giza. This was one of the two lost mountains whose exact location was lost to those in the Four Legendary Kingdoms and their closest advisors.

The Fall at the final Iron Mountain was undertaken by the West family, and also attempted by Brother Eli of the Order of the Omega, whom was knocked into the shaft mid-Fall by Jack.
