Christine Parker was left alone with Paul Hawkins to guard the New York State Library overnight when it became a crime scene following the death of a security guard.
Parker took the "babysitting" duty too casually, eating a candy-bar and reading a Cosmopolitan. She disbelieved Hawkins' claim that there had been a strange flash of light from further inside the library, and remained in the lobby while he went off to investigate.
However the information desk just so happened to be where Bellos was teleported into. Though he initially mistook her for a contestant, he deiced to have his Hoodaya kill Parker anyway, and took her badge as a trophy.
